Good morning Ning,
One of the coolest things about the work I get to do is that I work with extraordinary people doing extraordinary work in the world.
I'd like to introduce you to some of these awesome people and their work. Here's one:
If you've ever thought about the Big Problems In The World (or even the little ones) and told yourself your little self couldn't possibly have an impact, meet Ning.
Ning grew up in China. One part of her story is that when she was very young, right after the cultural revolution, her parents started a school in their courtyard to educate young people who had missed years of schooling. They did this probono for years. She was inspired by their dedication to being of service where service was needed.
For her, a seed was planted. (You'll have to wait for the talk to get the full story.)
Now, when she sees a problem, she organizes people around her to take action in the direction of finding solutions.
In 2008, she saw that one of the most effective ways to address climate change was to educate children, so she founded Renew Our Schools, a program that teaches schoolchildren how to get smarter about energy conservation. She started it in Boulder, and now it's a nationwide program.
In 2020, when there was a severe shortage of PPEs, she reached out to a family friend in China who had access to PPEs, enlisted support from a couple of humanitarian organizations, called upon former colleagues from Google -- and raised $1.6 million in 10 days to send PPE's to people who needed them.
Recently, in response to her passion to take a stand for climate justice, she founded 1.5 Climate, a donor collaborative that raises money to fund climate solutions.
Ning's message is all about taking collaborative action -- as in "You have the power to DO something, but DON'T DO IT ALONE!"
What she's learned through these projects (and PS there are more!) is that there are a lot of people who care, who want to make a difference and who are eager to help. When you pick up the phone and ask someone to help, they usually want to.
With those kinds of collaborations, so much more becomes possible.
That's why it's essential that you effectively communicate what's at the heart of your idea, what's at stake and why it matters.
When you can clearly communicate that, whether for your business or your world-changing mission, people will jump to follow you.
I've had the privilege of hearing more of Ning's story, and am immensely inspired by her vision, her commitment to collaboration and her leadership. I'm thrilled to introduce her to you.

See you out there! Johanna
